Customers are billed monthly and will receive twelve billings each year. Your billing is calculated to cover approximately 30 days of usage. The number of days may vary due to weekends and holidays. Prepaid base facility charges are always billed in advance for the upcoming month.
Monthly Billing Period Adjustments
(Please note the example below is assuming a residential account with a 5/8” x 3/4” meter. All general service accounts will be further adjusted with a meter equivalency factor.)
In an effort to more accurately report billing usage, a proration factor will be applied when the billing cycle is longer or shorter than the normal monthly billing cycle.
The standard monthly residential tiers are
(per 1,000 gallons with allowance per ERC):
First 6,000 gallons $1.37
Next 6,000 gallons $2.85
Next 6,000 gallons $3.69
Over 18,000 gallons $4.74
Metered Services:
Step 1: Days in billing cycle / 30 days = proration factor
Step 2: Calculation for the number of gallons (per 1,000 gallons):
Proration factor x 6 (Tier 1) = gallons in this tier
Proration factor x 6 (Tier 2) = gallons in this tier
Proration factor x 6 (Tier 3) = gallons in this tier
Remainder is billed in Tier 4
Step 3: Rate calculation:
(Tier 1 Gallons From Above) x (Tier 1 Rate) = Tier 1 Amount
(Tier 2 Gallons From Above) x (Tier 2 Rate) = Tier 2 Amount
(Tier 3 Gallons From Above) x (Tier 3 Rate) = Tier 3 Amount
(Tier 4 Gallons From Above) x (Tier 4 Rate) = Tier 4 Amount
Example:
Residential Customer with standard 5/8” x 3/4” meter
20,000 gallons of usage with 27 days in billing cycle
Step 1: 27 days / 30 days = 0.9000 proration factor
Step 2: Calculation for the number of gallons (per 1,000 gallons)
Tier 1: 0.9000 x 6 = 5.4
Tier 2: 0.9000 x 6 = 5.4
Tier 3: 0.9000 x 6 = 5.4
Tier 4: 20 – (5.4 + 5.4 + 5.4) = 3.8
Step 3:
Tier 1: 5.4 x $1.37 = $7.40
Tier 2: 5.4 x $2.85 = $15.39
Tier 3: 5.4 x $3.69 = $19.93
Tier 4: 3.8 x $4.74 = $18.01
